UK Minimum Wage Set to Rise from April 2025
Effective April 1, 2025, the United Kingdom will implement increases to both the National Living Wage (NLW) and the National Minimum Wage (NMW), impacting millions of workers across the country.
New Wage Rates:
National Living Wage (Aged 21 and over): The hourly rate will rise by 6.7%, from £11.44 to £12.21.
Aged 18 to 20: The hourly rate will see an increase of 16.3%, moving from £8.60 to £10.00.
Aged 16 to 17 and Apprentices: Both categories will experience an 18.0% rise, with hourly wages increasing from £6.40 to £7.55.
The Low Pay Commission (LPC), which advises the government on minimum wage matters, noted that these recommendations align with the goal of setting the NLW to equal two-thirds of median earnings.
Employers are advised to prepare for these changes to ensure compliance and to assess the potential impact on their operations.
