'Freedom Day'

This week Boris Johnson confirmed that legal restrictions on social contact in England will end on 19th July, with the responsibility on everyone to ‘proceed with caution’.


What will change for businesses from 19th July?:

  • Face coverings will no longer be legally required in shops, schools, hospitality, or on public transport.

  • The 1m plus rule will be lifted in most settings (Hospitals will retain this measure)

  • Nightclubs and large capacity venues will reopen but will be encouraged to use a Covid status certification/ ‘Covid Pass’

  • Gradual return to work.

  • Requirement to self-isolate if contacted by NHS Test and Trace will remain until 16th August.

  • No limits of how many people can meet socially

  • Theatres and cinemas can reopen

  • Pubs & Restaurants are no longer restricted to table service.

  • Limits of guest numbers at weddings and funerals lifted.

  • No restrictions on communal worship

  • Guidance on travelling to amber countries removed

  • Fully vaccinated adults will no longer have to quarantine for 10 days after returning from amber list destinations.
